Study 6 Part A & B: Additive and Subtractive

I chose four colors within the same hue, a light and dark, and two medium colors, to create a four-step color progression from light to dark in four even steps. I then created a composition in which the shapes overlapped each other, creating one area of triple overlap. In Part A I created the illusion of an increase in light with each overlap, representing an additive mixture. In Part B I created the illusion of a decrease in light with each overlap, representing a subtractive mixture.

Joseph Albers - Interaction of Color

Exercise 1

This project looks into creating the illusion of transparency through color relationships. Color-aid on Bristol, approximate size 4" x 4". Using shapes to design compositions; considering figure/ground and edge of frame relationships during composing.

Study 5 Part A & B: Color Translation

In Part A I created a grid of 4 colors (each 2" x 2") all within the same hue that differs in value and saturation. In Part B, I translated this grid into another grid of 4 colors within a different hue. I then made a small central square within each grid (each color 1" x 1") and swapped them between the two studies

Exercise 2 - Interaction of Color

Study 1 Try to alter only the saturation of a color. Hue and value should remain the same.

This part of the project looks in making a single color appear as two different colors by altering its surroundings. Using two small rectangles (1/2" x 1") of the same color, placed on top of two larger rectangles (3" x 4") of different colors.

Exercise 3 - Color and Composition

This Project Uses Color-aid paper on Bristol board and consists of a series of six (6) collages, each with the same format and compositions, but with different color palettes. I created a format for this project using six shapes plus a ground color making 7 colors in total; I didn't use any color more than once. Each composition is a 6" x 6" square.
