Portrait of a Heart Suspended

Project Description

Client Project | Zine Art Direction & Illustration

Portrait of a Heart Suspended is a client-commissioned zine exploring themes of love, autonomy, and societal boundaries through the lens of girlhood. My role encompassed the full art direction and execution of the visual narrative, crafting an expressive and immersive reader experience.

The visual language for this project was intentionally bold, layered, nostalgic, and experimental. I employed a mixed-media approach, combining hand-drawn illustration, collage, and dynamic typography to evoke emotional complexity and textural richness. Color palettes and compositional strategies were designed to oscillate between moments of vulnerability and resilience, mirroring the internal tensions explored in the text.

Through iterative prototyping and close collaboration with the client, I developed a visual system that prioritized emotional resonance while maintaining aesthetic cohesion across the publication. The final outcome reflects a deliberate departure from conventional linear storytelling, favoring a fragmented, nonlinear structure that invites the reader to engage in a more intuitive and layered interpretation of the work.
